Morning all

As I am currently fermenting my first extract Brew I used Safale US-05 yeast. THis is the first time I have used this yeast and whilst I am not concerned I just wondered if this seemed to be normal.

It took a good 24 hours before the krausen started to appear and this was just light foaming like a cap almost.

But now 5 or so days it is still there and if anything it looks a touch bigger this motning or bigger bubbles..

Normally my Krausens are long gone by day 4.

My Air lock doesnt bubble but thats normal and I can smell Co2 and there is condenstation inside it and on the lid so all appears to be going okay I just wondered if anyone has expeirenced this long krausen with safale us 05 before.

The temp has been around 18ºc give or take a few for minor fluctuations but generally around 18.

TIA

It'll be fine, and will probably need around 12 days in the FV. I've done two Bulldog kits and the Krausen hangs around for ages. It will sink eventually though. I think it's a trait of using a better quality yeast, but I may be wrong.

Agreed. Whether used straight from the packet or rehydrated in 20c water, I get the same results as Crewebrewer states and I've used it for my last 10 brews. Nothing to worry about.

Never used US-05 so cant comment, I have found good results with Gervins G12, goes like the bloody clappers so thats my yeast of choice at the mo

Well its day 12 and its still there although it has diminished I am sure.. So leave it I shall. I suspect it will be gone by the weekend

Rely on gravity readings to see if fermentation has stopped as US05 tends to leave a permanent head unlike S04 that drop like a stone after a few days

And if bottling US05 takes a while to pack down tight so be careful when pouring
