25 liters in the fermenter. 1056 FG. One pack of Safale-04 enough? Don't have it localy so can't run and buy more...Should throw in a pack of Notty aswell?

One packet should be fine. I usually use 2 for 60L so one should be more than adequate. :thumb:

One pack will be fine, he** 1/2 a pack would be fine.

I normally brew in the 1045-55 range (@24-5L) and only use 1/2 a pack and then reuse the yeast for a second brew, getting 4 brews from one packet.

spoken like a true Scotsman

I've just got a brew on this morning, the mash tuns wrapped up cosy like a newborn child

I would say it will be plenty - i used two packs of S04 in my recent first AG of 27l and it had fully fermented in 3 days - much to quick i would say

That's great guys! Thanks. Undershot my saccarification temp. A little less body than I had planned for. It may just be a good thing since I have been using a lot of munich and 8% caramel malt. Making an IPA with centennial, chinook and cascade. Came out with 1045 pre boil and around 40 litres in the pot after pulling my biab bag. Will be a lot of beer.

QUESTION: I have 25 % pilsner malt in there. 90 minute boil needed or should 70 suffice?

Cheers,

Johan

Well I LOVE Yorkshire as well

I have only reciently started re-using the yeast, but over last 2 years I have had no yeast related issues.
Money is tight (esp for me) and given that for 20+ years I was fermenting using 5g (Yeast)/25L(wort) with no problems, whats the issue ? :thumb:

And with yeast accounting for nearly 20% (£) of a brew if I cut it to 5% then I can brew more beer

Hi Gray

What size boiler/mashtun do you use for a 60ltr brew?

Andy

its actually 55L but usually squeeze a few more litres out of it. My boiler and mash tuns are officially 60L blue barrels but are actually probably more like 65L.

:thumb:

I would like an 80L thermo and 100L SS pots so I could brew 80L easily.

Hairybiker,

How do you store the other half of the packet until you need it?

Also, does half a packet ferment out in the same amount of time? I usually onlt ferment for 7 days...

Cheers,

DirtyC

in my early days was using 5g of muntons basic, did the job on my 20l wort -always within a week usually had it bottled by then in my haste

Well, I'm on US-05 and after 8 days it's still bubbling, plus there's one inch of thick krausen at the top :-D... I guess not many things are as uncontrollable as brewing!

You were right guys...Think one pack was sufficient...After 3 hours in the fv the excess vodka came flying out from the airlock. Hope I don't have to clean my floors in the morning.:-o

Oh dear, it's coming out the airlock. Put the fv in my 50 litre pot whith some cold water to calm things down a little and so i don't have to swipe the floor. 21 c on the temp strip on the fv. 18-19 c in the apartment.
