Mark, a great brew Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby, I did it for my 1st AG and bottled it last week, had a sample for qc ;) , and it was very nice, I'm going to try and leave the bottles for as long as possible, turned out at ABV 6.2% :D

On your recipe, shouldn't the last lot of fuggles be at 10mins?

Also how do you put the recipe up on the forum?

Good luck with it, you won't be dissapointed

Hi Mark,

Hope your brewing went well :D

I looked at your recipe and wondered if you were thinking of adding black malt/sugar to it at all? Milds frequently have these ingredients in them and i can see your recipe hovering dangerously on the strong ale side of things instead of the intended throwback mild side of things.

Having said that, it looks tasty anyway ( :D ) although in think that much crystal is going to make it a bit cloying (hence the need for sugar to thin it out a bit)

The other reason i thought i would mention it is that i made a beer very similar to this a little while back (5kg pale, 900g crystal, 300 wheat malt, same hops) and it turned out like an Abbot Ale/ Speckled Hen crossbreed. Not a bad pint but definatley not a mild. A lot depends on the maltster who made the crystal, which will have the biggest effect on the flavour profile of this beer... :hmm:

Anyway, you could always chuck the sugar/black malt into the fermenter as these ingredients dont need mashing

Btw, what brewing software is that?

The recipe is a very famous one in terms of milds from 'back in the day'. This is a light mild; they use paler crystal malts, whereas the dark milds use dark sugar and dark malts. The whole thing about milds is that they are only lightly-hopped, and have a stronger malty flavour.

I think...I am no expert - especially as the last time I drank mild was 4 years ago!

As soon as I go AG, I want to try some milds - I think they are REAAAALLLLLY tasty!
