Being a newbie on my second brew which is coopers Canadian blonde,I'm just wondering is it wrong to give it a stir after taken katsina collar off ?

When I brew I will only lift the lid for one of two reasons, firstly to ease the pressure if I think the lid might blow and I see it bowing and secondly to dry hop if that's what I've planned for the brew. Otherwise I leave it alone, I know it's tempting to check it, have a look, poke it, prod it, etc. but this does open the door for infection and the thought of doing a whole brew and then pouring it down the drain scares the life out of me. I've found the time to look at it and inspect it and coo over it (and coo over it I most certainly do) is two weeks after I've bottled it and it's had twelve days in the warm and two days in the fridge and I try my first taste of the brew. SWMBO just rolls her eyes and mutters under her breath "Here we go again" while I happily babble on about the beer I've just cracked open, hold it up to the light endlessly and smugly talk about hoppy overtones and good mouth feel. Patience is the key and infection is the enemy, good luck with your Blonde Paul, and let us know how it goes. I tried ordering one but it was out of stock in Tesco but it's on my list.

Personally I'm not convinced by the opening the lid - infection argument BUT I totally agree, ingredients in, pitch yeast and forget it until it's time to check the hydro
Rob.

The coopers kit, does come with a ring that they tell you to remove once everything has settled. It keeps fv nice and clean.

Tesco seem to have restocked some items, they have the Blonde available now by the looks of it - still at sale price.

Thanks hops and dreams for your advice would you leave krausen collar on full length of fermentation or take of as per instructions, sorry about spelling of krausen this predictive didn't think it would create such a STIR HAHA

I would possibly take it off so it is easier to clean, especially one less hassle on bottling day but then again I might not bother still. I dont have one so I cannot comment but that is generally the idea you remove the collar and leave it to sit..

I wouldn't stir it though, no need to whatsoever unless you have a reason too (such as stuck fermentation and wish to rouse the yeast or you are trying to add a batch prime) Even then stir slowly and gently

Yea, the Coopers starter kit comes with the Krausen collar. It says on the kit to remove the collar around day 3 of primary and simply replace the lid. It does take out a lot of Krausen stuck to the side of the FV. I've done it for my first 2 HB's and haven't had any infection

Excellent. Alcohol fuelled purchases are the best!

They sure are. Only a week ago I sent the order for 6 Coopers kits, chosen with the idea of a partial mash for each one. Completely forgot, until the first of the serial reminders by e-mail and text arrived. Some time around Tuesday.
