hi guys!

I am a avid retro gamer. I have a collection of roughly 450 games on 17 systems. But do any of you guys enjoy a spot of gaming of the retro kind?

I have a collection of roughly 450 games on 17 systems

Smegging hell, I thought I was OTT having a Xbox and a Wii. The one retro game I would love to play now would be Mech Warriors.
I keep saying one of these days I will load Win 98 on to an old pc so I can dust off the old MW cd's

I used to love the games by Ultimate back in the Sinclair days (best part 0f 30 years ago)+Starion & track & field.Star Wars & Stunt Driver on the ST.C&C and Tomb Raider for PS1.Deus Ex & Half Life for PC.

I like MAME32 arcade emulator on th PC; brilliant. Shinobi and Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, Slap Fight, Double Dragon, etc...

Also Postal 2, and a bit of Cannon Fodder and Chaos Engine

I'm not really much of a gamer but I'm a little retro collector.

Bit of a story to this.... When I was younger my Mum & Dad insisted that I wasn't going to turn out like some mindless drones I had as friends so I was only ever allowed computers rather than consoles. My first computer was a 48k spectrum, the hard plastic one with the tape deck. After that was done I got the 128k +2 with James Bond pack. From there it was onto the Commodore Amiga A600 then onto PCs etc. While this was great for my development as well as enjoyment I still had an itch for a Megadrive or a Snes etc. When I hit 16 those were done and the PS1 came out, I was old enough and stupid enough to do what I wanted with my money by then so the Playstation was my first console :D

FFWD a few years and I spot an Amiga on ebay for £10. Doing a brief search finds loads of them, some boxed etc. I won one and the bug hit. I decided to collect every console, from my generation, that I could get my hands on. After collecting a few in boxes I decided to get some cheaper ones unboxed, so that I could play them while keeping the boxed versions as mint as I could. It snowballed a little bit considering I'm just a guy with a loft but I'm happy at the collection I have now. I don't have exact numbers but the list is something like this.....

Sinclair ZX Spectrum (Rubber key one. Boxed but power pack doesn't work.)
ZX Spectrum +2 with JB Pack (Boxed and mint)
ZX Spectrum +3 with Floppy Disk Drive (Boxed, can't remember condition)
2 Amiga A500 (1 boxed & Mint)
3 Amiga A500+ (2 Boxed, 1 Mint)
4 Amiga A600 (3 Boxed, 2 Mint)
2 Amiga A1200 (1 Boxed & mint)
6 Megadrives (Various ones MD1, MD2, MDCD etc. 4 boxed, 2 like new)
3 Snes (2 Boxed & mint, Scope also boxed & mint)
4 Gamegears (2 boxed & mint)
2 Gameboys (1 boxed & mint)
N64 (unboxed IIRC, still need one of those)
Playstation One (Unboxed, I had lost interest by here lol)
Xbox Crystal (Boxed but chipped/hacked/free gamesed)
Xbox Crystal Case (With Box)
Xbox 360 (I have the box but I still use it lol, flashed but can be easily unflashed)
4x PS3s (I have 2 boxes, 1 old one new style. All in use at the moment.)
Nintendo Wii (Box up loft. Chipped/hacked/free gamesed)
Various games that I have picked up as joblots. Probably 100+

I also have one a couple of rare expansion parts for the Amiga. I can't remember the exact model of the cards but I have one of them in one of the A1200s with a fair whack of RAM and a decent HDD. It absolutely flies considering. WHDLoad is also on it so it's my go-to kit when I fancy some old fashioned fun. Just remembered, that one is the Blizzard 1240. Can't remember what the other one is, think it might be the Blizzard 1230 or the one below the 1240.

I'll have missed a few things but I think that's it for the most part :D

@ScottM
Wow thats a nice collection for someone who doesn't game lol ;) I was never a Speccy fan and still aren't to a certain extent. I have a 128 Speccy that is pre Sugar takeover. I think I have have only booted it a handful of times. I am more a Commodore fan and have a 64, 128 and a couple of Amiga's. I then have various consoles and handhelds.

@adrianmole72
Mame is awesome. I have mame32 installed myself and I love to play metal slug.

@BIGJIM72
Again, not been a Speccy fan, I don't have the Ultimate games. Might of been missing out on them as I hear jetpack was amazing.

@Dieseljockey
450 games aint overkill ;) It's only a start. I have an XBOX 360 and PS3 too. 30 games for each system lol.

The only reason I got the kids a Wii is that I read you could play Zelda and Mario.....bad dad
Eldest found an old Snes with Mario in a charity shop and bought it for my birthday a couple of years back and have saved Princess Peach a few times now.
Love my PS3, but the Wii's had a few outings to play the old Snes games.

Also have a ZX81, spectrum, Vic20, C64, Amiga 500 and CDTV. Mame also gets the odd look at for Donkey Kong, Cresta and Glaxian

For games I always find myself going back to the following, mostly via emulators nowadays.....

Spectrum Games:
Bruce Lee
IK+
Saboteur
Dizzy
Treasure Island Dizzy
Chase HQ
R-Type
Commando
The New Zealand Story
The Way of the Exploding Fixt
ATV Simulator

Amiga:
Stuntcar Racer
Shufflepuck Cafe
Speedball 2
Flashback
Lemmings (all of them)
Cannon Fodder (1&2)
Shaddow of the Beast III
Bills Tomato Game
Secret of Monkey Island 1&2
Skidmarks 2
Double Dragon
Lure of the Temptress

On the PS3 I always find myself turning to the tomb raider series :)

That is one fast Amiga !!!

I used to love Darkseed, and Mortal Kombat on my Amiga 600, where you had to change the disk when you pulled off a fatality !!

Currently trying to softmod my old xbox to run emulators and the like, but struggling a bit..

You really need to do the RAM mod to get the best out of the XBOX when it comes to emulation. Normal games are optimised for the standard amount of RAM in an XBOX but the emulators and homebrew software will easily accept the 256mb mod. You just need a steady hand to do the soldering.

As for my Amiga...

Yeah it's a fast beastie now ;). But thats what £250 of 3rd party mods does to it lol. The CPU will easily go upto 35mhz but I would have to put some sort of additional cooling into it as the aluminium heat sink will not cope and I will end up blowing the processor. And there is simply not enough space inside for another fan lol.

Since that pic I have put a floppy hardware emulator into it. It reads floppy images from a SD card and acts like it's a real floppy drive. Complete with drive sounds :thumb:

Now THAT'S porn...

Struggling to get hold of the correct savefiles..but I'll persevere..made myself an action replay thingy yesterday :D

Gonna put Linux on it as well; been watching youtube vids

An xbox with the right mods makes an excelent media centre PC. I had a modded system for running emulators. Ended up selling though and I can't remember what for.

Yes, it does allsorts... Going to do the splinter cell exploit, as that's the only game with it on that I own..

I converted an Xploder cheat system with an old usb cable, and using Action replay drivers..

Years ago, I converted an Amstrad CPC6128 colour monitor to fit my Amiga 600,and ran the sound through my stereo..the neighbours would have been pee'd of with "War ! Nevever been so much fun! " from Cannon Fodder blasting out :thumb:

One of my PS3s is setup to run emulation. It does an absolutely fantastic job but unfortunately there isn't a GREAT deal of support so some of the emulators could be doing with some work.

I still find a laptop with a mouse the best emulator around (Mouse for Shufflepuck Cafe and games of that ilk).

the Xbox crystal I had was hardware modded with an executer 2. I honestly think I played more homebrew emulators on it than I did proper games :D

That's some job you have done on the 600 btw, didn't realise you could get away with so much. The mod for the SD card is a fantastic idea. Almost makes me wanna dig out my modded A1200. That thing is seriously quick for what it is. I have a 100mb hdd, Blizzard 1240 with 64mb ram (major overkill but it was cheap). The blizzard card runs around 40mhz IIRC and with the fastram workbench would load almost instantly. I think I'm running 4.0, but it might have been 3.5.

Fun times :D

Oh, and the speccy blew the commodore 64 out of the water. The 64 was closer to a console than anything, hence why all my friends who couldn't tell you what a space bar was used them :P

2 hours after getting my 48k for Christmas I had written 3 programs on it.... from the manual of course. I could never get the one with the spider to work though :D

Here's my setup...I used to have an Amiga 1200 but I think my mum car booted it a few years ago! What a shame, it was ace...my favourite game was Syndicate. What a classic that is! Syndicate Wars was also pretty good for the PC but don't think it beats the original.

I joined a forum for retro gaming a while back, its quite new and only a few members but think it will grow and has some good threads to look through.

If anyone's interested have a look http://www.retrogameforum.com

Only 10 years behind :D
The XBMC4Xbox as it is now called is still maintained but not anywhere like it used to be.
I still use mine but not as much and only for non-HD material as it doesn't handle 720p + video.
The xbox is also great for Mame and other older emulators once modded :geek:
