On some forums posts to the "lounge", "tap room", "snug" or whatever don't count to your post count.

Seems like a good idea to me!

In a forum where the majority of posts are on topic you can roughly gauge a posters experience by their post count which is why I don't think they are beneficial.
Surely there are dedicated forums for this sort of thing?

I don't judge peoples experience by post count i view it by how many times i see them answering peoples questions.

Sometimes i visit the forum and there are hardly any new threads/posts to read as i only make wine, i usually then visit the snug , IMHO the word games are good as they keep you in the forum for a few extra minutes and you can then go back to see if there are any new posts in the forums you follow.

I'm not sure what the post count means really. Either a really keen brewer, actively participating as a means of helping others, keenly joining in with general or specific discussions that interest them, fostering a friendly and knowledgeable atmosphere. ...................Or a sad b*****d with too much time on their hands.

Pushing 6k I see there, bob? :P

Not much to do in Milnthorpe, i noticed a booths store has been built since the last time i was through there, plenty of juuices to choose from. :thumb:

Aldi for me, followed by Asda for juice. Boothes are good for different beers though. They always stock a good range of local and not so local microbrewers offerings.

For example, if you look at the Harris home winemaking forum their board statistics currently show 131,157 total posts, but 17,639 of those or 13.4% of total forum content is on three puerile word games. One alone currently runs to 516 pages. That's not going to happen here. Have your fun for a while, we're not total killjoys, but don't complain when worthless dross gets deleted.

516 pages? Is that all? One (sadly now defunct) forum I used to frequent got up to something like 2K pages on their word association before they went offline last year. Rather than being puerile, we had great fun creating links between words that were unusual or creative and avoiding the more obvious choices. For example, if someone posted "otter", the most obvious links include words like "fish", "swim" and "carnivore", but the range of possible responses also includes "goldilocks", "woof", "Ewok", "pocket", "trapper" and "run" - all of which are references to the bear subculture (an "otter" is a slim, hairy gay bloke).

Figuring out the link between two words was sometimes a challenge, as was finding words that would pose a challenge to others - which all made it all the more fun (as well as educational). It all depends on how much of a challenge you make it.

Where's your nearest Aldi, Kendal ?
