Word games crop up on a fairly regular basis, rapidly run to multiple pages and then start going around in circles. They may be fun for a while but most people rapidly get bored of them. A core of members keep the things going and build up large post counts.Bluezephyr said:In times gone by a few forums have had a word association thread.
I searched for one but can't find anything.
Site crew allow them to run for a while but then start trimming them back to a manageable length and deleting page after page of utter nonsense. This soon becomes a proper pain in the posterior. When the topics go quiet for a few days we delete them in the hope that no-one will notice.
From time to time, one of the Administrators hits the big red Post Count Reset button. Posts which have been deleted then drop off your post count tally and some members complain about this, but as we see it, one word responses add nothing to overall forum content.
For example, if you look at the Harris home winemaking forum their board statistics currently show 131,157 total posts, but 17,639 of those or 13.4% of total forum content is on three puerile word games. One alone currently runs to 516 pages. That's not going to happen here. Have your fun for a while, we're not total killjoys, but don't complain when worthless dross gets deleted.
