:drink: I've never really been "into" Stout, but since it's winter I've got a bit of a hankering for something stouty and delicious (no, not a fat bird - a drink!).

Can someone reccomend some "proper" bottled stouts for me to try that isn't the Irish generic? Preferably something I might find in a good beer shoppe. I used to quite like Murphy's on account that it "wasn't bitter" but I've not seen it for yonks! :hmm:

Asda has some decent Oatmeal Stouts, & Booths has one named "Piece Of Coal" that is great!
Of course that's oop north ;)

I would go for an Oatmeal Stout. I'm drinking my one at the moment, but the last bottled stout I had was irish from Porterhouse Brewery Dublins only independent Brewer. They do three

Plain Porter
Oyster Stout
Wrassler

The last two were my favourites. However I don't know if you can get them over here.

Cheers

Ps if you are planning on brewing Cuss and I have brewed Alemans exquisite Oatmeal Stout which I can highly recommend.

Nice one chaps! That's quite a list - Incidentally, I've just nipped over Sainsbury's and bought the only one they have that wasn't Guiness! "London Stout" from the Meantime Brewery. Have to say - I've missed out. This stuff is really nice!

It's a little lighter in "mouth feel" than expected, but it's very well balanced; hoppy yet smooth with heaps of toasted malt flavour and a definite cocoa/coffee aftertaste - although on their website it says it's made using brown and black malts - no chocolate malt. I can definitely taste cocoa! Damn my tastebuds.

I just wish I hadn't only bought one bottle :drink:

Meantime do some great beers. Their London Porter is very good and so is their IPA.

Good find

Mersea Island Brewery - Oyster Stout
Harwich Town Brewery - Redoubt Stout

Doubt that you'll get them out of region, but well worth a try both of them!
