Hi folks,
as per the subject! I'm completely out of Amarillo, as is virtually every stockist. I've used Centennial and Chinook quite regularly and I fancy trying a new one. What can you recommend? Citra? Magnum? Bravo?

Had some awesome all Citra beers lately but I'd be using it late to maximise the flavour and aroma

I've used cascade for bittering very successfully.
I mentioned on a different thread that one of the best beers I have brewed this year was a single cascade hop beer where I used it at 60, 15, 0 mins and dry hopped.

I have also made a single hop beer with Cascade. Only 4 500ml bottles left :(
I'll just have to make more!
Thing is, for the sake of economy I've subsequently used northern brewer for bittering and think it gives a more rounded flavour. OK it's not an americen bittering hop but you need less with 9% AAs and you can save the Cascade for where it's best, in flavour and aroma.
Just my thoughts, I may be wrong!

Not wrong at all - in fact that is the exact brew I just made based on a 'Sierra Nevada Pale Ale' clone recipe in the atest BYO magazine.

Magnum is incredibly clean. It is an outstanding high alpha bittering hop that substantially reduces the amount of vegetive matter in the kettle. As typical with any early addition, there isn't much character (American or otherwise) that would come through with this hop. Its a German variety anyhow. I'd recommend focusing on those late additions for that character.

Thanks. I went for some Magnum in the end so I just need to find an excuse to make another American IPA! :)
