I have just recently done my first batch of beer from a kit that I got for Christmas and am looking for another batch to do. I have seen some that I think would be nice but these are the 3Kg kits not the 1Kg kit I used for my first batch.

Can someone let me know what the difference between the two is and if one is better than the other. Also can you recommend any that are good, high % and taste good.

Is there any actual difference in the brewing process between the two.

Hi Paddy,

The only difference with the 1kg cans and the 3kg cans is that you don't need extra sugar in the 3kg cans.

The rest of the process is the same.

Only done 2 kits, Woodfordes Wherry, and Admirals Reserve.

IMHO, the Wherry is a far superior beer

Good luck !!

Stephen

Thanks Stephen,

I had actually seen the Admirals reserve and fancied it, Woodford Wherry is better you say? I guess with a 3Kg kit I don't need the brewing sugar, perfect. So many choices and so little time to drink them all in

Hi paddy,

I did the Wherry for my first brew, and although it got stuck at 1020 it still turned out perfectly drinkable. For my first home brew attempt I was mightily impressed.

I'm currently halfway through drinking my second brew which was Milestones Lion's Pride which I'd have to say I prefer, but that could be down to me being a lot more certain of what I was doing rather than any difference in the quality of the kit. It could have been a fluke but I found that this beer cleared much faster than the Wherry.

I've just bottled my 3rd brew which is the Woodforde's Norfolk NOG and at this stage i'd say it smells and tastes better than the first two.

The Wherry was definitely good enough for me to want to give it another go soon, but having said that I'll probably work my through most of Woodforde's other kits before I get round to it.

I'm sure whichever you choose you'll enjoy it.

Hi Paddy,

Wherry just tasted a little less sweet, IMHO, but it's all down to personal opinion... a lot of guys on here add things to one can kits to improve them as well, there are plenty of threads on it :thumb:

hi mate, I would consider giving the milestones kits a try, I brewed the flasher the dasher and it was nice, still got quite a few bottles left, I recently brewed the raspberry wheat beer and kegged it on tuesday, been sitting in the shed at around 13 psi, since then, just had to try a pint tnight and it helluva good, i poured the first pint and threw it away cos it had a bit of sediment, with it being a wheat beer its apparently meant to be cloudy, nice lacing on the glass, u add the raspberry after about 10 days,i brewed it down a few litres so at this stage the raspberry is a wee bit tangy , just a wee bit though but its nicely carbonated already, if you dont have any problems drinking a cloudy pint then its a go-er. it doesnt seem to have that homebrew 'twang' that ive had with my other beers.
