hi
thinking of harvesting my yeast, but then got to thinking how much do I add to a new batch (23ltr) and how to measure it ?:nah:

There's tons of science out there or you can do what I do and just whack in what feels right.

I re-pitched 5 times by swirling the trub round and then just pouring some of it in.

I think it is difficult to over-pitch.

I've very recently started re-pitching, I take a sterile un-primed bottle, fill it about a third of the way with trub then seal it. When my wort is ready on my next brew a few hours later I fill the bottle most of the way with the new wort, give it a gentle shake and then pour the lot into the FV with a gentle stir. Goes of like a rocket.

Sorry stupid newbee question, but how long can you wait between mixing the wort and pitching the yeast, kit instructions tell you to pitch asap.

As soon as the wort's at 21 - 23c the yeast goes in, I'm usually waiting on the FV temp to come down after mixing it all up.

Thanks Larry - so this "get the yeast in as soon as possible" thing is a myth then ?, in reality it doesn't matter if you wait half an hour for the temp to come down.

When i do my next brew i'll make sure i have sufficient water chilled down to bring the temperature down quicker when i mix the wort, plus i'll have my brew fridge set up to maintain constant temperature

I've sat the yeast out in a sealed bottle for good few hours with no problem.
