Was mulling a few things over whilst planning my brew for this weekend.....I'm using a plate chiller to cool my wort after the boil and running it straight in to my FV. This means the cold break is in there for the fermentation.

I had a thought of re-circulating the cooled wort back in to the boiler - my false bottom is retro-fitted with a very fine 40 mesh screen and my theory is that this, along with the hop bed will filter out the cold break.

The only down side I can see is that I will have to run the chiller slightly longer; other than that I can't really think of any issues.
Have I overlooked something.....can anyone see a problem with this??

Many thanks.

Have you had a problem with your cold break not settling out before? Everyone I know that ends up with break material in their FV says it always drops out with the yeast.

I use a plate chiller and use the same routine as you are mulling over have mesh screen as well . Still end up with some break in the fermenter it settles out pretty quick. I suppose you could transfer it to another fermenter after a couple of hours the only thing is you could risk an infection , never bothered transferring , never got any off flavours
