Well... mice. I live in a lovely bit of bucolic rurality and am used to mices and we've had them in the house before but they usually kept to under the floor boards or in the loft. Last night though I thought I was dreaming about someone rustling a plastic bag. Turns out mice were in my brewing related cupboard at my grain (which is in a plastic carrier bag)! Mouse crap everywhere.

Would you use the malt?

Oh yeah and it's now in an FV, hopefully they won't gnaw through that.

No I wouldn't use the malt . . . thats for the bin . . . . And yes they will chew through plastic . . . We have the horse feed in galvanised metal bins to stop the buggers . . . . Plastic really is a temporary solution . . . . Those big blue HDPE ones are pretty good though.

Oh adn incidentally did you know that there is a permitted level of rodent droppings per kilo of malt ;)

Enjoy that beer

Thanks again

I was a bit flustered and didn't realise it was only a smaller bag of torrefied wheat they'd got so not a huge loss. I've got a bin for the grain I feed the hen with, but we're down to one hen and don't look like getting any more so it might be mine soon!

My cupboard now smells of extra mature cheddar ;)
