Racking from a cask

I have been offered a firkin from a local micro, as I have no room to cool this, and am also likely not to be able to finish it before it starts to oxidise ( honest ) I was thinking about taking a couple of cornies up there, getting it racked into them and then covering with CO2. I figure this should make it last as well as my own beer lasts? He has said I can get them when I want, so I am not under pressure to fill both at once.

Anyone tried this and let me know if it worked ok?
