He was my favourite player when I used to watch years ago the bad boy of darts.

Five-time world darts champion Eric Bristow has died at the age of 60.

Bristow was at the Premier League Darts event at Liverpool's Echo Arena when he suffered a heart attack.

Fans at the Echo Arena burst into a rendition of "There's only one Eric Bristow" after being told he had died.

Bristow, who was born in east London and was known as the Crafty Cockney, has been called a "tremendous player and a huge character" who was "honest and straightforward".

One of darts' first superstar players, he won his five titles as a player in the British Darts Organisation, dominating the sport between 1980 and 1986.

During his career, he also won five world masters titles.

Sky news.

What a shocker. I was 15 when he started his run, and it was him and the other big-hitters of the time that got me into darts... ended up playing for a few pubs, got a few trophies over the years before other things took precedent. I liked his abrasive nature too - he would have been a champ in the Snug too before getting banned lol! RIP.

Bristow was before my time but I’m sure darts wouldn’t have become the phenomenon it is without him. RIP

Chucking darts with a cig in hand, taking a swig of ale between throws... imagine that on teevee these days? It's all gone so horribly, dreadfully wrong. Jocky, you got out just in time.

Someone told me today that Jocky was allowed to write ten pints of lager a day off on his tax return as he needed it to play darts due to his tremors!

Lol! Remember Andy Fordham... I read that he needed about 18 pints just to be calm enough to take to the oche! Last I heard of him, a few years back, his liver or summat had packed up and he had to, er, reconsider his lifestyle.

He did one of the celebrity weight loss shows and was unrecognisable
