Talk of specific yeast cultures for beers, liquid yeast vials etc has gotten me more than a little curious

Q1 - If a vial is £6 odd is then what's the benefit of using said yeast over it's dry counterpart
Q2 - Do I use a whole vial for one 20ltr brew or can they be split and used in more than one brew

Cheers in advance

I split each vial to make 6 starters. That makes it £1 per brew + the cost of malt extract so maybe around £2 per brew. Some people save some wort from previous brews to keep price down. Not sure how much dried yeast cost but my personal opinion is the difference between liquid or dry is big enough to justify any difference others may not agree. I must admit to only using dried yeast only a very few times in the last 30 years as I captured yeast fom bottle beers for years until I discovered liquids.

I used to use dried stuff, very handy as you just sprinkle it on the top of the cooled wort....easy peasy.

However the liquid stuff is just so much better than dried. Personally, I use the stuff that commercial brewers use. I have a bit of fun getting the yeast from bottled conditioned stuff. Hopback yeast is fabulous, Thwaites also brilliant and if you bottle rather than keg, Bengal Lancer is just the dogs licky bits...

All of these can be resued again and again
