Hi folks,
I saved the trub and leftover beer from my last brew as per the guide here: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=4406

The question I have is that, now I have separated the trub from the beer, which part should I be keeping that cotains the best of the yeast (US-05)? As per the pictures below, there is not a great deal of yeasty sediment in the second container with the beer in, even after 48 hours in the fridge:

add some room temperature water if you did a really good job of syphoning off. i tend to leave a few hundred ML if I intend to harvest.

i think you wanna let them seperate, pour the liquid off into a new container, and I just grow mine from that. the guide on here says to let it settle again, and ditch 3/4 of the liquid, then grow it from that.

yeah as rob said ,boiled cooled water a fair bit pour it into the slurry , mix well then fridge for an hour , you will notice 2 different sediment lines you want the top 1 , pour like you do a beer slow and almost horizontal in 1 go until you have most of the top layer throw sediment away., now pop yeast water back into fridge overnight and then decant water but leave some on top of yeast , job done .

Thanks. After doing that, I am now left with the following:

Is it the stuff in the middle that I need then, as it's almost identical to the stuff that I decanted off the top last time?

i take it in the picture that is the overnight bit ( you have already washed it and left for an hour then poured top layer into this bottle) ok so now you have yeast vials, what i should of said is you need a few bottles and split this lot into around 500ml lots , then when ready add 1 500ml bottle with 100g dme in 1l of boiled cooled water by decanting top liquid off yeast into a glass and taste liquid (it will taste bland ish) if its off you will know before you pitch it , if ok tip yeast into starter aerate well , do 2 to 3 days before brew day then you can either decant liquid (and taste again) or just smell it and pitch the lot into brew.

The guide that I linked to suggests using 50ml bottles and I have 10 of them for this purpose (and they're much easier to store in the fridge!), so can I just siphon the middle layer into the small sterilised bottles?
