Hiya

I've got 2 Demi-Jons which have stopped bubbling Spicywines (hopefully) for xmas I'm going to rack them off to new demi-jons on sunday and bung in stablizer and a crushed camden tab I think after which I'm thinking of using Finings to clear them out for a couple of days if taste is ok - whats your take on Finings - I no in shop bought kits you alsway use finings at the end but when you do Juice and teabag bag I'm not 100% sure - Whats your take?

Thanks

Ken

I only fine if the wine is cloudy after the fermentation has stopped, and it has had a campden tablet added.
I have only had to fine one wine in the past few years, all my other grape & fruit wines have been clear as a bell after a rack.
E.g. I have a gal of parnsip maturing for xmas, it is 100% clear with no finings added
YMMV.

I tend to give it a month after stabilising to see if it'll clear on its own, then use finings if it hasn't.

I always use finings as I dont have the room to store wine for momths or enough bemijohns.

A lot depends upon what you're making. If you're wanting something to be cleared and bottled in time for this Christmas then I would certainly use finings.

I always use finings for 'quick stuff' like juice wines (even though I then filter them and leave for 6 months before bottling) but I hardly ever use finings for long-term stuff like country wines.
