I bought a Hanna pH Test last month (model HI 98128), which I bought as I understand it is a good quality pH tester.
Since buying it I am unable to get stable pH results. I followed the instructions for calibrating it with 7.01 and 4.01 buffers. Do I need to calibrate after each reading? Here is what happened today:
Mash pH:
1. calibrated and cleaned with distilled water
2. 1st reading 5.11
3. cleaned with distilled water
4. 2nd reading 5.22
5. calibrated and cleaned with distilled water
6. 3rd reading 5.35
Sparge pH:
1. calibrated and cleaned with distilled water
2. 1st reading 5.67
3. cleaned with distilled water
4. 2nd reading 5.94
5. calibrated and cleaned with distilled water
6. 3rd reading 6.00
It also takes a long time, around 5-10 mins for each reading to stabilize ... it slowly goes up or down before finally settling on a reading. Should it take so long for each reading?
