does anyone have the youngs pressure barrel circa £17-£20 ?

Just wondering whether it would be worth getting, or would a tap at the top be better??

atm i'm using fizzy drinks bottles.

They are as good as any plastic HB barrel :thumb:
The only drawback is that it needs to be sat on a shelf or table so that you can get your glass under it :thumb:

The top taps use a float system to draw beer from the surface so in theory you get clear beer sooner, to be honest by the time your beer has matured sufficiently it should be clear down to the bottom any way :thumb:
Also the floats can be bought separately and fitted to bottom tops if you really want to ;)

Hi all, can I jump on this post as its similer. I have the plastic wilkos barrell with the tap at the bottom and I find once my brew is half gone I lose pressure (fizz) which is understandable. Now I know the corny kegs are supposed to be the best but i cant afford one at the moment but wilkos sell those pressure caps with those little gas bottles ( seem quite expensive for what they are though) question is are they any good? really tempted to buy one

If you mean the little silver gas bulbs about 3" long they are very expensive for what they are - i'd say the best bet is to add an S30 valve to the lid of your existing barrel and get an s30 cylinder - much more economical.

cheers wez for such a quick reply yeah they do seem dear, where could I get hold of the valve and gas from only thing that sells homebrew nr me is wilkos unless I look online

Online would be your best bet, try the sponsors above, Matchell & BrewUK would be most likely to help you out. If you don't see them listed contact them i'm sure they will try to help :thumb:

Cheers Wez in my excitment I just looked on ebay and found some on there if I dont get a response i will look at the links cheers once again for such a quick response

See you started something now I just looked at the above links and wandered over to the beer kits, stupid question but I have tried the coopers aussie lager, and also a youngs bitter, but what is the difference between a wheat beer an IPA a lager amd a pilsner? I really fancy trying out a new kit but spoilt for choice Im not into ultra strong dar beers so I was thining the IPA?. As my wife is more of a lager drinker im thinking some sort of light beer would be a happy medium any suggestions what kit?

 dangerous web sites

The differnce really is they are different "beer styles" if your wife likes Lager she might like a pale ale kit beer - you could even dry hop it :thumb:

Hi Wez pale ale it is then is an indian pale ale the same then? also what make would you recomend i.e youngs coopers etc

An IPA is normally quite high on IBU's (bitterness) I'd go with one of the 3kg kits from Woodefordes or Muntons (actually they are both made by Muntons) Great Eastern always used to turn out nice for me :thumb:

Wez, is there a 'how to' on this? Where would I get an S30 valve and cylinder from?

Hi all, another stupid question, my wife went and bought me the valve and little gas bottles from wilkos, so i thought bugger it may as well use it my question is this the barrell i have is only half full so i put one of those bulbs into it but when I poured the drink although it came out very gassy the head was very creamy (lke guiness) but the beer was still tasting quite flat, should I try another bulb? or have I buggered up somewhere along the line. cheers for any reply

All you need to do is drill/cut a circular hole in the keg lid using a hole cutting drill bit is easy and fit the s30 valve (available from most online HBS's - try the ones above) the s30 cylinders are also available from HBS ~£15 first off then ~£5 for a refill.

Beer takes a while under c02 pressure to absorb it, it also absorbs more the cooler it is.
