Hi,

I have 4 pressure barrel's (3 got for free with no lids). I purchased the C02 injector kit when I bought my first barrel.

I currently have 5 gallons of lager on the go and will barrel once done, i was thinking of putting another one straight on after but was going to barrel with the solid cap which came with the barrel (no injector built in), once the first barrel was empty to then replace the solid cap with the injector cap.

Do you think there will be any issue with this (obviously I will lose C02 from the barrel but was just going to inject a bulb straight away)?

You've got two options. Either change lids straight away and inject with C02 or wait until you have used the priming C02 and change the lid as pressure dies down.

Either way, after re-pressurising, just ease the lid to vent off any oxygen in the keg and you should be good to go!

I've done exactly this before with no problems. Prime the second and once the pressure goes then replace the lid with the co2 injector and your laughing!

As you have 3 without lids why not treat yourself to 3 new lids with injectors already fitted? That way you can have all 4 on the go.

Thanks for the advice and yeah the plan is to get the lids but brewing on a budget and can only source the lids at £11 each and also need a lid for the other 5 gallon fermentain barrel at about £4.

with P and P i'm looking at about £40 for them and I can't help thinking how much brew I can get for £40 instead :D

I prime and then use the barrel until there is no pressure left and then swap lids, some times there is enough pressure to see out the beer, that saves on CO2, been doing that for over 30 years with no problems
