hi guys and girls

as mentioned in my introduction post my next brew-day is going to be a first experience with malt extract brewing, is anyone here familiar with the brupaks craftsman range? basically it what one of my local dealers describe as "the next step up from beer kits" knowing full well i only have the basic kit to enter 40 pint heaven. i am confused with what i am supposed to do with the grain and hops i was lead to believe that i could boil the grain and hops at 65-70C for 30minutes then transfer into (after straining) the fermenting barrel and top up with cold water to chill the wort and pitch the yeast.

however after reading the instructions it does not sound that simple!

can anyone help to paint the picture this is the my first batch that does not involve a hops tea bag or beer kit with 1kg of brewing sugar. trying to get away from the basics without purchasing a boiler as i have no current room for storage

cheers
Terry

All you need is a big pan (2 or 3 gallon stockpot) and some muslin bags, a big one for grain, and some small ones for hops. Steep your speciality grains (crystal, chocolate etc) in the big bag for 30 mins at 70 degrees, then remove and drain/squeeze it in (you could pour water through it to get more sugars out - called sparging). Then you top it up with more water, bring to the boil for an hour, add your extract, and throw in your bags of hops at the appointed times. Simples!
