Brew day today.

Todays brew is an all grain kit from our sponsor The HomeBrew Company.

My son bought it as he says he is fed up having to eat a meat pie when he drinks my malty ales and would like a " Lager " type occaisionally...

The kit comes all bagged up ready to brew and contains the following...Grain: Premium Continental Pilsner Hops: Perle, Hallertauer Mittelfruh

So HLT switched on and I'm waiting for it to reach mashing temp of 64C. It will be fermented out in the beer fridge at 10C with the kits included 2 packets of dried " Lager Yeast "

Let the good times roll.......

Mash completed, and just over 35 liters of a very pale wishy washy wort gone into the boiler.

First hop addition of 42 gms of Perle added now wait till 15 mins to go before the next lot of H. Mittlefrueh....

time for a rest then scoop out the grains for disposal. A few pics taken and will add them at the end.

first off a picture of 2 new additions to the brewery this week
a 3 way gas managment board ( thanks Barney )
and a desk top bottle capper both yet to be ued in anger.

Theres nothing like getting your tackle out in a morning.....

Heres todays additions, Hops Perle and 2 later Hallentau Mittlefrueh, togther with HALF a protocloc tablet, and a bit of water treatment ( Gypsum and Campden tablet )

Here come da boil

Final result was 22 litres at 1048 corrected...Rather insipid looking after all my malty ales, lol

dunno, is there something wrong with that ?

To be honest I'm not 100% sure of the hops, as I said originally its a pre packaged kit, the hops are just marked with their addition times. There were 3 packets and I've tried to identify them as best I can...I may be wrong.....

2 packets seemed to be the same so I've took them as Mittlefrueh ??

might get in touch with the supplier and see if they will let me know

if its a pre made recipe must be ok , i've got recipe for a hells with 18g of perle but pils do have more hops than a hells , it could easily be over 40 ibu with just the perle (mine is 10%aa)

e mail sent......

with it being a kit I havent even put it thro brewmate. Just followed the written instructions I'm afraid

Oh dear...................

what have I spawned.....lol

we shall see

got my reply from the Homebrew company this morning confirming the hop additions are
42 gms of Perle and the other two were Mittlefrueh as I guessed.

whilst writing to them I also took the opportunity of asking when they would be getting any reconditioned kegs back in stock...

the reply from Shane Conroy for The Homebrew Company was

quote....

Hi Brian, probably never. These cannot be got anywhere these days."

Update on the brew....fermenting very well.
Its strange opening a fridge door getting a blat of cold air (10C) and seeing a brew bubbling away........ :D

well its still working 14 days at a steady 10C.
I took a gravity reading and its showing 1010... thats approx 5% abv.
Looks like a cloudy lemonade at moment...but tastes quite nice...I think I might like this
