Im new to home brewing, so much so that I have my first ever still fermenting.
But I all ready know this is a hobby which is going to take off. Im buying a garden shed just for this new found hobby but my concerns are with me living in Scotland and having such lovely cold weather im going to have to get a good temp control system for when its too cold.
So I have been playing about in the back garden tonight with some heater cable and a temperature control.
Its very rough and ready but its an experiment.
It works on 2 probes, one near the top and one near the bottom, the reason for this is because the controller im going to use I can set up a 'control weight' between the 2 probes. Basically I have it set up so the temp display is half way between what both probes are reading and it works around that. It should give a more even reading.
I successfully heated a bucket of water at 10c at an ambient of 11c to 15c in an hour un insulated. But as it started raining I had to abandon. Im confident this setup should maintain a temperature with ease as the cable its self was at 25c when not touching the bucket.
