Does anyone know what the standard name is for clear plastic tubing that you use for siphoning purposes is? I want to get some from screwfix in order to brew today, b and q were sold out.

General wort transfers and bottleing.

I normally get it off the reel from B and Q but they had sold out, so was hoping to get it a screw fix, but can't find it on their website and they didn't know what I was after.

Yes, PVC tubeing is what it should be called, but b and q had it down as "poly tube"

I can't find anything suitable from Screwfix but I can't find it on the B & Q website either. Is this for cold wort? Tubing for hot wort needs to be silicone.

Oh.... thanks RPT.

Well I was going to use it to siphon from the kettle to my counter flow wort chiller..

Is there a reason why to not use in on the hot side?

Another question... I have been using white malt vinegar to clean the copper pipes, can I then run vmp through to sterelise them? An online guide said to use "percarbonate-based cleaners like PBW", but I have no idea if VMP is PBW?

The PVC tubing in my auto syphon is marked with a maximum temperature of 65C. Above this temperature it will go very soft and won't be food safe - it can leach chemicals into your beer.

I've been running a length of pvc tubing from my MT to my boiler for several years with no issues <twitch>
And some 1/2" stuff on my pump from <where ever> to <where ever> including boiling water to clean the pump after transferring to the FV.
OK Silicon is better. But lots more expensive and harder to get.

Ok, I think I can come up with a copper pipe work around.

What I don't know how to do is sanitize the copper pipeing. This PBW star san seems rare than rocking horse....

Maybe if I just pull some boiling water through before? Would this suffice? It is going to come in contact with the wort

So let some boiling wort pass through the wort cooler before turning on the cold water, yeah I can live with that.
