Hey guys
Just wanted to share yesterdays great experience.
A buddy of mine has a few apple trees, we had been talking about making a batch of cider for a while but didnt fancy the cost of a scratter and press.
Instead, bought a plaster mixer from screwfix for ã5. Sharpened the paddles on it. It really did work a treat, attached to an sds drill it reduced a big flexibucket of apples to pulp inside 10 minutes.
Next, managed to pick up a spin dryer on ebay for ã1.04!. It was tatty, but after spinning jug of vvs through it a few times (and thoroughly rinsing) i was confident it was good to use.
The dryer also worked brilliantly, 2/3rds full it produced about 5 litres of juice each time. I put the apple in a BIAB bag so that only juice got through, no pulp. I was pretty happy that the remaining apple was close to bone dry.
So 90 mins and ã6 for 40l of juice.
Assuming the cider works out ok, figuring out how to get hold of more apples next year.
