Hello all. I purchased some ph strips to test the ph if my water and wort after mashing, they worked fine for testing my water but because I have used black malt in my mash the wort has just dyed the paper brown, any ideas on how I can test the ph of my wort? Thanks john

Please can you explain what's needed and where to buy it?

Zombie thread alert! :laugh8:

PH is one of several variables, so you may like to start off checking https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/beginners-guide-to-water-treatment.64822/ for an overview - the water PH isn't really relevant to controlling the mash PH, it's the residual alkalinity you sometimes need to adjust. You can test this with a Salifert test kit as described in https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/...ifert-alkalinity-and-calcium-test-kits.68369/

I think most folks use an electronic PH meter to measure mash PH (I got an Apera PH20 off amazon, there are cheaper non-branded options too but the reviews seem variable), but it's probably not critical for basic water adjustments.
