I have been given about 100g of Pacific gem hops, but I have never had them to my knowledge so thought I'd create a Smash with them for a simplish all grain beer
I was thinking about for final size of 5gallons
5-6kg pale malt
15kg at 60 mins
15kg at 30 mins
15kg at 15mins
25kg at 0mins
30kg dry hop

Any opinions would be appreciated thankyou

Yeah I know I got 100g to play with so thought I would give it a go

Haha I only just realised, think I'll stickt to grams rather than kg might run out of room in my kettle I was thinking of some yeast like that yes

You're quite right, I was talking about the kg /g confusion. Don't ever order a replica of Stonehenge...

Recipe looks good though. What's the AA of the hops? May be worth moving the 30 minute addition to 5 for bigger flavour depending on the bitterness you're after.

I do a single hop very best bitter with 80% pale malt and 10% aromatic and 10% crystal coming out a tad upwards of 6% abv. with 45 BUs. Pacific Gem is a terrible bittering hop due to the amount of co-humulone it contains and the beer can be coarse and astringent until it has matured for a very good number of weeks. They have a distinctive flavour when used for late additions.
This was one of my first regular beers and when old mates, sons, daughters and nephews come round for a pint, it's a pint of Grim Reaper they expect and ask for. Then we get onto the fluffy red IPAs and oatmeal stouts, but always end up on the Reaper.
Go for it, but beware, single hop Pac Gem doesn't make a beer for sissies.

Try an IPA
