So when brewing an American Pale Ale today I overshot my OG by a mile. Target according to BrewMate was 1050, ended up closer to 1060. Where did I go wrong? Will this cause me any problems aside from a longer conditioning time?

You could always liquor back to a lower OG. The danger is that you may knock the flavour off balance, but that is also a danger of a higher OG. 1060 is not outrageous. I'd congratulate myself on my efficient mashing and enjoy something stronger, probably.

I'm guessing your mash efficiency was greater than expected (as mentioned above) or you lost more than anticipated when boiling. Did you use malt from a different maltster, mash longer or boiler longer/harder than usual? My first few brews came out with a higher than expected OG as did some after I started doing an overnight mash but all turned out well regardless.

It was actually my final extract brew before going BIAB AG...so not sure where the extra points could have came from. I did you some dark crystal which I steeped but it was like 5% of the total grain bill so doubt it could have added that much. Recipe from brew day post is here http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=40450

Maybe I did something wrong on brewmate :wha:
