Optimum Amount Of Liquid Malt Extract?

i have some spare summit hops here would they do? are they a good bittering hop? is summit ok to use as a bittering hop in an IPA?
I would like to use the least amount of water I possibly can so would 1L be the very least you would recommend or could i get away with less?
Also what amount of summit would need to be added to say 1L to give it some decent bittering? I think I have around 60g's
I will purchase some isomerized hop extract for next batch to try it but I really need to get this beer into my keg asap.
I am already well behind.
So for example how does this sound?
Boil 1L of water and add my summit hop pellets (what amount do you suggest?)
Let water cool till FV temp. (do i just leave the hops in the boiling water or do I stir them?)
Strain it through a sieve or muslin bag and taste before adding to brew.

Does that sound about right?

Sorry I wouldn't know where to start calculating the ibu you will achieve with a hop tea added to 5-gallon batch that has no bittering hops at all.
You probably need to achieve about 50 IBUs .
It's something I've never done. Personally I would wait until you get your isomerized hop extract.
There are far more experienced homebrewers on the forum who may be able to help!
 
Does anyone know approx how much summit hops I'd need to achieve this sort of IBU figure? And would this be in 1L of water?
I've seen people use these little coffee press machines which look to have way less than a Litre
 
Just a quick update:

I went ahead and used what I had available which after a failed first attemp where I overboiled 33g of Summit. (I had put the hops in a bag and had kept the gas on full for a furious boil resulting in a dry pan and no liquid). But I will learn.
That left me with around 36g of Summit left for two brews of 5 gallons. I simply done two boils with 18g in each and once boiled i reduced heat and covered keeping it at a controlled boil for 1 hour. The family didnt appreciate the hop smell in the house but I explained it was for purely research purposes lol.
I then put it through two sieves several times and cooled it down to around 20 degrees. I then added to me brews. Its only been a couple of days but gone are the sweet malty tones that were there and now much more bitter which is more to my liking.
On the IBU Calculator the readings were rager 41 & tinseth 30.7
I have learned a few things this week and I will never be caught out again using unhopped liquid malt extract lol.
What I would like to know are there any favourite standard hops that are favoured by IPA brewers? And how much to use in a % gallon batch?

I have 2 more brews I plan to make in a few weeks time. Obviously the LME I have from that order is Unhopped.
I have 100g of Columbus and I have 100g of a C Hop Mix.............I will be making 5 gallons of each but what amount of hops for each would u be advising I use for the Bittering and for the Dry Hopping.
And whats the best stage to add the bittering hop. After fermentation just boiling in some water like I have just done or do I bitter before fermentation in some wort?
Sorry for all these questions but I feel like I need to just double check and get opinions from guys who know there stuff tyvm.
 
Nowadays I don’t “Dry Hop” and just use a Hop Tea for aroma.

Steeped at below 65*C for 30mins or allowed to drop to ambient. Hop tea (max 22g of hops so far) is introduced to 10 litre keg with carbonation sugar.



For Bittering my “go to” hop is East Kent Goldings. Personally, 25g of EKG boiled for an hour (with or without the LME) provides enough bittering for a 23 litre brew.

Undoubtedly, you will get other advice, but the above works for me.
