Guy's i have been asked to make a Tetleys clone ale! OK stop laughing!, i did a search on the net and anyone who asked for it got a massive slating pmsl!
Anyway i have a recipe from one of my books so will use that (i dont drink the stuff anyway) but two questions,
1 it calls for one of the hops being Bramling Cross - which i dont have at the mo' is there a substitute or do i have go buy 100g just to make it?
2 which yeast would do it? i have windsor and nottigham? The book states an ale yeast! and i have seen Wlpooo2 i think it was? - not paying 6 quid for summat the cats can produce!

This is from a hop table that I use...

Bramling Cross 5-6AA United States Substitute with East Kent Goldings, Progress, Whitbread

Don't know if you have any of them.
 
Thanks Diesel i got EKG so no probs think i got some progress too.
I worked out a while ago which were the most common hops and subs used in most brews and got all those in. :thumb:
 
Can't help with the yeast, I think either of what you have will do. Found this bit of info on a web site...

Tetley's Bitter being advertised on a Bradford trolleybus in 1970. .... It used three separate yeasts

If this is true about the yeast (not the trolleybus :rofl:) your going to have a rum time getting anywhere near. :pray:
 
Used to drink a lot of tetly in my student days in Liverpool. Quite enjoyed it but then it was 20 yrs ago and I was young and foolish :lol: :lol:

Just Foolish now :lol:
 
Just brew any low abv bitter of the right style from a kit.

If they specifically requested that then they will drink anything.
 
Thanks Mason, good suggestion if you're in UK. But where i am its 4000 miles to the nearest LHBS :rofl:
So its DIY all grain here or nothing, but i have everything i need i reckon with a substitute hop and just need to malt a bit of wheat too. :thumb:

Sorry Pete i didnt actually do a computer thing.
I just got all my brewing books went through them and wrote down all the hops used then went through every recipe putting a mark next to each hops used then totalled the lot up according to what was used most - i.e.

Challenger 1 1 1 1 1 1
Fuggle 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
Target 1 1 1


etc etc, i might do one out properly if i get chance the i'll send it out m8
 
Surely someone has Dave Lines Brew Beers Like Those You Buy.. must be a tetleys clone in there?
