Order a shandy round here and youre more than likely to get a thick ear.

*shouts from the other side of the fence*

Beer is beer. It's great on it's own and frankly the best beers can be as complex and delicate as any carefully crafted cocktail.

But.

There is nothing wrong, IMO, with creating new things with old ingredients.

Here's the analogy.

I was once fortunate enough to dive around the Summer Isles in the North West of Scotland and collect a few scallops. We fried them with nothing more than a touch of olive oil and ate them straight from the pan. Stunning. Truly amazing food experience.

Am I going to complain if someone takes some scallops, lovingly combines them with a little garlic and fresh parmesan and presents me with a baked-to-perfection Coquiles St Jacques??? Not likely...

So by the same token, while I like to sup my beer as beer, I'm not going to write off the skill of the mixologist who is offering me a new beer based experience...

...when I can afford to go to one of these places of course. :(

what a crock of $**t written by someone who clearly doesn't drink or appreciate beer!! All hail to the Ale!! Three Cheers for the Beer!!

That beer is great on its own, I was lucky enough to be given some last week. Very nice malty brew

True, but the cocktail they made from it sounds pretty nice too..
