Hi guys,
I've been wanting to brew a rye-based beer for a while and, what with winter and the colder weather, have been really enjoying darker/heavier beers (particularly oaty stouts) I've decided to try and create a mash-up of the the two.
I've been looking around at rye stout recipes and wondered if it would be okay to throw some roasted oats into the mix as well? Has anyone tried this with any success?
My plan was for a small 10L-ish test brew consisting of:
2kg Pale Malt
500g Pale Rye Malt
400g Roasted Rolled Oats
300g Chocolate Rye Malt
250g Chocolate Malt
Then Warrior for bittering and maybe dry hopped with something funky for some extra fruitiness?
The result, I'm hoping, is somewhere between a spicy/dry American style stout and a smooth oatmeal stout. I'm hoping to get a bit of sweetness from the rye also.
Would be great to get some feedback on this.
