I kegged my Coopers Dark ale last night & all seemed to go ok, until this morning! When i came downstairs i checked the keg & could hear a fizzing / hissing noise coming from the top. It has stopped now (24 hours later ) but just wondered if this is normal or could it be that my keg is losing carbonation? The lid has one of those brass screw type things on which i think are for those gas carbonation things. I noticed it has a tiny hole in it. Will the air be coming through from inside the barrel & out of the hole? I was thinking of buying a new lid which i have seen at my lhbs but thought it would be a bad idea to change lids now.
Please any help or advice would be appreciated.

might be that cap you lost the other day

could be a faulty valve or seal in the valve unless the seal on the lid is leaking and where else would the air be coming from?

Is it not the safety valve venting excess pressure ????
Is that what it is, a safety valve? Sorry dont mean to sound thick but a novice beer brewer here, & i was given this keg so dont know much about them. If that is what it is, will it be ok?

It's most likely the cap seal not sealing... usually needs a smear of vasaline on the washer inside the cap and don't over tighten... Just a fraction of a turn beyond the first feeling if tightness.

Unlikely the pressure valve which is built into the cap as this vents at 15 psi ... and not really enough time in just overnight from kegging to have got that high. The keg will start to bulge before the safety valve vents !

As it hasn't been long since kegging and there's chance that it is the seal and that would mean no pressure I'd be tempted to remove the cap apply some vasaline and re-tighten. All the priming sugar wont have been used up yet so it will still re pressurise...

Strangebrew, thanks for your reply. I did apply vaseline but maybe i did overtighten. So, you reckon i should loosen it a little?
