Words fail meWhy is it acceptable for young people to freeze, but not acceptable for old people to freeze?
I am 71 and don't need it, i agree with you give it to those who do, i know some who are a couple of quid over the threshold and have lost it, so unfairI am 72 and my wife is 71 we do not need the winter fuel allowance and I’m sure there are many many more like us. With all the data that the government has on income and tax why can’t it just be paid to those below a threshold? State pensions in this country are a disgrace and one of the lowest in Europe if that was sorted to be the same as France or Germany then we wouldn’t need Winter Fuel Allowance.

Isn't that what's happening? It's means tested, So those below a given threshold still receive it?With all the data that the government has on income and tax why can’t it just be paid to those below a threshold?
Totally agree with the minimum wage concept, but needs to go further or be worked out in true terms ie all other benefits or reduction should be taking into account and calculated as the cut off point. so take the current maximum amount that includes pension creditThe threshold should be set in line with the living wage which is approx £24K when it rises in a few months this would remove the better off pensioners from receiving it and makes sure the really poorest who are too proud to apply for pension credit and also gives a safety net for the ones who just miss out of pension credit but are in need of some help.
some people believe the pensioners are rich because they have received 2 reasonable rises but prior to that they have had years where they were well below the amounts others were getting infact if you look at the last 25 years they had 3 years with no rise at all and that is why thew triple lock was brought in because they had fallen so far behind.
Still not as much as the train drivers rise, maybe the pensioners should start a union then Labour may recognise them and award even bigger rises
He's the one who had the heating on and his children where helping him out rather than he froze to death. They could have done a better job of choosing people for the video. It's a bit odd to chose to make a video about freezing pensioners featuring (quite a few!) shots of pensioners in short-sleeves.

do it on debt figures and debts to energy companies as well them if you want to see the true figuresInteresting to see say in April if there has been a difference in mortality rate. My guess would be that it will be negligible.
