Hi,

I've started a kit which I received as present (my first homebrew) but a couple of nights after it started fermenting the overnight temperature dropped and I'm not sure the fermentation process has completed (started it 10 days ago and I've now had 3 consecutive hydrometer readings the same 1004). The samples I've taken are a bit cloudy and fizzy. Is it ready to keg?

What's a "yeast cake" I've seen a few references to it on the site.

Thanks

F

How low did it drop? I imagine that it should be fine by now if you're getting consistant hydrometer readings.

I wouldn't stress out about the cloudy beer. It will either settle out or it won't. Either way, it will drink. :drink:

Oh and a yeast cake is that nasty crap at the bottom of the bucket.

yep sounds ready to keg-make up about 60-85g sugar soultion then grease, and seal it up (not too tight or the seal fails-why u check its sealed up with a wee bit of co2 or at one week)- if after less sediment in keg/clearer beer could leave out in cold for a while-2-3 days for yeast and 2-3wks for haze causing protiens

Thanks for the replies, temperature probably dropped to about 5-6 deg C for 2 days. No-one at home and no heating - next investment an aquarium heater :)
