Hi All,

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm new to brewing. Looking to chat with other brewers about recipes, the use of different sugars in brewing, amylase, fruit brews like wine and cider, the use of pectolase, what yeasts to use, whether to use whole grains or milled, and much more. I'm a few days into my second beer kit, but would like to brew from scratch sometime soon. I hope to be chatting with some of you soon.

Dave.

Welcome to the forum. I’m only down the road (sort of) from you. Enjoy the brewing journey!

Thanks all for the replies so far. Nice to see there are some Brewers who are local to me. It would be good to meet up sometime to pick your brains as I have so many questions at the moment that I think it would be too much to ask the questions I have on here unless I just ask the odd question every now and then. I'm sure I'll ask questions that have already been answered, and whilst it's interesting to trawl through posts to glean information it's also good to meet people in person from time to time.

So far I have no beer of my own to offer anyone, but I've brewed a batch of Geordie bitter which was passable, though far from spectacular. I'm currently brewing a batch of Suffolk strong ale. I'm hoping for better results. So far I'm 5 days into the ferment and about to add the hop pellets this evening, as per the pack instructions. However, I'd like to move towards using whole grains sometime soon.

Anyway, thanks again, and I look forward to picking your brains soon.

Hi!

Yes, I bought my brewing equipment second hand from someone in Harlow. Not far away at all. Are there any local brewing clubs in the area, or are they few and far between?

Welcome. I'm in great bardfield, not a million miles away.

I am thinking about starting a homebrew club round this area, as the nearest is Chelmsford for me. I'll post about it if I get something going.

Hi Svenito. Shame you're not just a little bit closer, but like you say, you're not that far away. I'd love a local club to go to. I have a ridiculous amount of questions at the moment and don't feel comfortable asking all of them in one go on here. There seem to be a few of us reasonably close to each other. Don't think I'd really want to drive to/from Chelmsford, so if you ever get any further with the club idea, I'd almost certainly be interested.

Hi and welcome.

I tried to start a local club, but without success. I still like the idea of having a club to go to which isn't too far away (I'm in Sible Hedingham), and looking at the location of people on this thread, makes me wonder if we could sort something out. An initial, informal meeting may be the way to go (a pub maybe thats in the centre of us) and see what interest there is in forming a club. To stop anyone from feeling 'too far away' a possible way to avoid this would be to use different places to meet. Hopefully this would allow more people to get to at least some meetings each year.

So lets put it out there again: who would be up for looking into starting a club, initially with an informal meeting??

Just had a look at the member map. Can I ask the admins, do you add us to the map, or are we supposed to add ourselves? TIA
