HI. I decided to give home brewing a go, I have some beer todo but really fancy a TC, i had a recipe using 4 ltr of vitafit apple juice, 1ltr cranberry and raspberry,
pectolase, malic acid, and yeast nutrient, and cider yeast. all in a demijohn.

I have had a pc crash and now cant find the page again.

any recommendations for making it using what i have please...

cheers

welcome to the forum :), you may not need all that apple juice, but once youve made a few TC's you will find the perfect recipe for you :)

+ youve got the raspberry and cranberry juice from LIDL havent you ?

if so its actually quite a low proportion of those juices - you may benefit from adding this juice drink to the demijohn a few days into the brew once its slowing down so the flavours are a little more prominent

because of the tolerance it will power through your sugars in the solution leaveing you with a dryer cider

you may want to get a tea bag and make a strong mug of black tea - stirring every few minutes for about 7-10 mins before adding it to the solution before the yeast- dont forget to squeeze the tea bag aswell - this is for your tannin - to replace the tannin that would have been in the apple skins :)
+

what cider are you using btw, because some of the cider yeasts come with sweetner with them

i personally recommend EC-1118 champange yeast - its a got a high alcohol tolerance and can deal with a great variety of temperature diffrence

remember to steralise everything throughly and rinse through again :):thumb:

Ok so i have followed your tips on this.

the yeast was a GC13 cider yeast.

now the two demijohns of TC on the go. one i used an ale yeast out of a punk ipa kit, that one has finished and the other that i used a cider yeast is only bubbling once every now and again.
I dont have time for a few days to rack it off into bottles.
will it do any harm waiting.
cheers

Some members do not like leaving their cider/wine sitting on dead yeast after fermentation has finished my view is if its only for a few days i cannot see any harm.

Yeh, I've left stuff sitting in the primary for a few weeks after fermentation has finished if I had other things to do/couldn't be arsed 😀

Didn't seem to affect the outcome any

ok so i put it in to bottles today. took an sg reading in the attachment is this ok. not really sure what the reading mean, i know the initial is with the sugar in the liquid and this is after and there appears to be no sugar left. is this right? cheers

What was your original reading ?

hi i think it was around 1.030, i will record next time.

cheers

its not essential to take gravity readings all the time , i only do at the start of the brew and when i go to bottle/keg it as i need the 2 readings to figure out the final ABV :)

that and to make sure that there arent sugars that havent been eaten up yet ( a stalled ferment could happen if the brew gets too cold and stunts the yeast)

if it ferments out when its bottled you could get a blow out !:nono:

Looks like it finished at an SG of 1.000 which is about right (and where all my TC's finish). Your starting gravity of 1.030 means that it'll be roundabout an abv of 3.93%

it will be a little more if you decide to prime (make 'em fizzy) :)

thank you guys. i have back sweetened with artificial sweetener. will look at making fizzy next batch.
