At THBF we're always looking into ways of making brewing easier for our members. One subject that crops up time and time again, is the problem of not being able to get hold of a suitable 1/2" threaded bulk head fitting to modify a vessel (pan/pot/plastic bucket/conical fermenter/other) to take a ball valve/hop strainer/racking arm/blow off tube/other.

We're proud to announce that we've had some Stainless Steel Bulkhead Fittings 'custom made' here in the U.K. These fittings have many applications, including but not limited to:-

Fitting a ball valve to the outside of a boiler and a hop strainer to the inside.
Fitting a ball valve to the outside of a fermenter, and if wanted a racking arm to the inside.
Use as a blow off tube in conjunction with a male hose barb/cam lock/other.
Use as a bulk head for any other reason.

Manufactured from 304 stainless steel they are supplied as a complete kit which consists of -

1 x Stainless Bulkhead Connector
1 x Sealing washer
1 x stainless washer
1 x ½” lock nut

To fit them you will need to drill/cut a 20 or 21mm hole in the pan/pot wall, then simply pass the fitting through from the inside with the sealing washer between the pan/pot wall and flange. Then from the outside slip the stainless washer over the nipple and screw the lock nut into place (see pic below). Tools required 22+30mm spanner/adjustable spanners.

We’ve had the SSBHF made so one side of the nipple is longer than the other, which means that it can be used with thicker walled vessels such as HDPE conical fermentors.

These fittings are 1/2" BSPP threaded and can be used with any 1/2" female BSPP fitting, ie, BES Ball Valves, 1 piece 16829, 2 piece 16835, 3 piece 10397.

All in all the complete bulkhead solution, and about time too!

We’ve only had a small batch made initially and these will be sold on a first come first serve basis. The price will be

1 = £26.10 2nd class recorded, we only send these items recorded delivery.
Each additional fitting up to 5 in total, cost at £22.40 each, plus above.

Insurance not included enquire if required.

To buy the fittings simply pm me :thumb:

Very very nice V, a flippin bargain cos I know the amount of machine time that goes into making that.
Well done :thumb:

Indeed ! Its what isnt there that costs the money when items are machined out of bar stock . With that integral flange that is quite a lump of metal to start with and its not as though the waste is usable for anything but scrap weight . I know how long it would take me on a manual lathe to knock one of those out and I certainly couldnt get them out at anything near that price . Further most machinists with CNC lathes wont even consider setting up for small runs .

So , I was joking regarding price . The cost is warranted as far as I can see....just out of my league . So its jealousy talking

Before I order one, I have got to check the size of the hole that needs filling.

Shocker has seen the size of me hole, what do you reckon mate. Do you think it will fit.

21-22mm....does that make it 3/4 BSP ? I will have to find calipers etc in the morning :wha:
No it's 1/2" BSP . . . . Which for some unknown reason requires an hole almost 3/4" in diameter :hmm: :wha: :wha: :wha:

The fittings aren't cheap, but they're not expensive either, for the reasons you guys have touched on above. I actually looked into having these made for me, before thinking about the forum, if I ordered 6 they were £28 each. You may think that's expensive but try getting someone to do 6 units, that was hard enough, and I would have paid it.
Naturally, we could have got them made in China, but we're not going to do that, our businesses need all the help they can get at the mo

BSP is a general measurement of the pipe bore, the OD of the threads is 0.825" and the core 0.734" so you will need to drill larger than the OD, 20 or 21mm will be grand as Vossy said.
I need to get out more

Yes please Vossy - one for me if you could. When are they expected to be available?
