I have just been reminded this morning, whilst talking to a neighbour, of this old drink and wondered if anyone remembers it.

Made with the young tops of Nettles, sugar and possibly ginger, root or powdered, then fermented with either a beer or wine yeast to give a refreshing alcoholic drink?

It was famous in Morecambe until recent years.

Have made nettle wine in the past, that turned out into a nice basic white ( like pea pod ) good on its own or for blending with other strong tasting wines.
I'd be interested how your beer turns out.

I was brought up in Fleetwood, and my grandmother used to make nettle beer. I remember it had a sharp refreshing flavour, and that occasionally the bottles used to explode... We used to be allowed to drink it as nippers, even though it was alcoholic. I have often been tempted to have a bash at making it but never got round to it.

If you want you could try pea pod beer, would be similar I guess. and you don't have to wait.
