Hello!

I used to use kits about 7 years ago (in Canada, mostly Kenridge), and they used to turn out REALLY dry in flavour, so much so that I had to back-sweeten them to make them palatable. I have used a couple here lately (including the same Kenridge ones) and although they all ferment out to .992 or so, they are really sweet tasting. They must be adding artificial sweeteners or non-fermentable sugars to them.

So, can anyone recommend a really dry white wine kit? Or should I make my own from juice (wow...? Never made one).

Thanks in advance!

Nix

Give a standard WOW a go, I did and it was dry. I wouldn't say extra brut, but definitely dry.

Also did the California Connoisseur Sauvignon Blanc and it was also pretty good, maybe a tiny touch sweeter than the WOW but still dry.

Which kits have you done so far?

Thanks, will have a go at that...

So far I've tried... Cellar 7 Sauvignon blanc (pretty dry but still sweeter than I would like) and Kenridge Classic pinot grigio (really sweet!).

I'm no expert on the wine front BTW (I'm no expert on any front if the truth be told  ), I just like my wine dry too and I was impressed by both of those.

There is a wine and cider kit review section - might be worth a trawl through to see what others are saying about the various kits out there...

Thanks mate, have had a good old trawl through that but haven't found anything yet..

I guess I am basically looking for something that is a zero or one on the sweetness scale for whites... but they all seem to be 2 or 3 at the least :(

maybe try a different yeast

I have 2 batches of elderflower champagne

the first with fresh flowers and standard white sugar is dry
the second with dry flowers and unrefined sugar is sweet / medium dry

that is the only difference in the recipy everything else was identical

i use vintners harvest SN9 but any champagne yeast should give a dry wine

all of my wines are nice and dry except the second batch of elder :wha: :hmm:

nixhaz if you want a dry white i am sure i have read in the forum you should substitute the orange juice (in the WOW guide) for a litre of apple juice.

There is a WOW & juice wine thread here you might find interesting - viewtopic.php?f=41&t=39846
