If you do AG, brew your own bud. The recipe I used was absolutely spot on for the good stuff that you used to get on draught, and the bottles back when they used to be good too. My wife and I used to drink Hobgoblin Gold in a tiny little pub not far from us, before Marstons sold it to a nursery..... Proper old style pub, no kitchen, didn't take card payments, we used to take dog biscuits for the landlordss dog and at Christmas we took some stollen in for the landlord one year. So we have fond memories attached to the beer too I guess. lol
I wouldn’t want to brew my own Bud ;) , but do you have a recipe for the Hobgoblin Gold?

Ach, no, nor I. I remember actually liking that stuff in my younger years.... lol My second oldest actually really likes their 0% stuff, but then she can't stand beer, so what does that say? lol

Anyway, yeah, recipe in this thread. It was a little tiny bit hazy (I posted a comparison with a bottle of the shop bought stuff further on in the thread), but flavour was spot on. Nice simple recipe, but I do remember I used whole hops, and my word there were a lot of hops covering the bottom of my old boiler at the end. lol Oh and sorry it's not the best written recipe or brew day post, as I say I hadn't been brewing for long back then, oh and I didn't even mention that I was doing BIAB...

I keep intending to brew it again, but you know how it is, so many beers, so little time....

Cheers! I’ve plugged that into my software and get 4.3% at around 40IBU - does that seem about right?

What yeast did you use? Was it a neutral one (Notty) or something a it more flavourful (Liberty Bell or a liquid one).
 
Yup, my target was 1.042, I overshot after the boil and ended up diluting to 1.045. I used Liberty Bell back then, I hadn't started using liquid yeasts at that point. I noted it was good for the flavour profile, but I was never entirely happy with it's adhesion to bottles. If you could find a yeast with similar ester production, but better adhesion, you'd have a winner I reckon.

If you could find a yeast with similar ester production, but better adhesion, you'd have a winner I reckon.
Great. It’ll be a couple of months until I brew this so I might do a bit of research and see what the Wychwood yeast is best approximated to.

HopHouse 13 is definitely one my favourites. I am also partial to Lost Lager (Not so much Punk IPA) and Brooklyn Lager.

I first discovered HH13 in Ireland a few years ago during a trip to research my family tree. Fell for it hook line and sinker. In fact its such a taste - just the one and I know Ive had a drink! Never tried lost but Ive had a Brooklyn I think.

There are a lot I like not on the list as well.

Brains SA is a nice tipple for example.

These three are very acceptable, as bottled beer goes. Happily I have 15 gallons of what is in the glass to enjoy on draught before I need try them. It is made with the same base malt as the Timothy Taylors Landlord, Simpsons Golden Promise, and similar un-chlorinated spring water.

I’d probably buy more Innes & Gunn Oak aged beer if it didn’t come in such miserably small bottles, as it has a lovely taste. Wadsworth’s Old Timer is bottled conditioned so needs pouring carefully, and if you don’t read the label carefully you could miss that point.
I've had innis and gunn in 660 ml bottles from Iceland!!
