Hi, I am brewing a MYO ipa home brew kit from wilkos.

When the cold water was topped up to 23litres the instructions just said add the yeast. I stirred this into water/malt mix. I've done a bit more research and most say to sprinkle the yeast on the top. Does anyone know if this will cause a problem in the long run or affect fermenting time?

For reference, 3 days in and there's a lot of foam on the top still. The instructions say to bottle and carbonate 4-6 days.

Thanks

There are a few ways to add yeast dried yeast. Some rehydrate it in water for an hour or so, some just sprinkle it on top of the wort. What you did should not be detrimental, in fact quite opposite - what you made is effectively a yeast starter and will wake the yeast up quicker. But ordinarily, either of the first two will suffice.

In terms of fermenting and bottling, ignore what the instructions say and follow the 2+2+2 rule:

2 weeks fermenting, then bottle
2 weeks carbonating somewhere ambient warm
2 weeks conditioning cool

You’ll be fine. Stirring in just isn’t really necessary, but it won’t effect your brew.

Yeah, you’ll probably get the same advice from everyone on this. Basically ignore this. Your primary fermentation will probably be finished in that sort of timeframe, but it might not be and it’s always a good idea to both make sure and let the yeast clean up after itself. Leave it for 14 days if you can. Do you have a hydrometer to measure gravity? If so, and you really can’t wait the 14 days, leave it alone for 7 and then package once the gravity reading has stabilised, with the hydrometer reading the same over a couple of days.

Hi all, thanks for the advice. much appreciated. pleased that it won't have any detrimental effect.

I'll leave it longer, it's only day 4 and there's still a load of foam on top. Would anyone recommend a stir during fermentation, or leave as is?

I bought a hydrometer so I might check it at 7 days and see then, but i'll probably wait another week like you say. Thanks for the tips.

Leave if for now - if it's still bubbling, it's still working.

If after, say, 10-11-ish days you check with the hydrometer and the reading is still 'high', then you could give it a stir and a little bit more temp to help the yeast finish the job.

But for now, leave it be. 👍🏼
