Hi All,

I've made a few bloopers with my first brew I started fermenting today. I hope you can advise. Basically, I made a list of what to do, then I missed a very very important step. Amateur mistake in my excitement is all I can say.

I have one of the MYO ferment kits from wilko's and a 'lager' kit (wort, yeast, hops which come in a can).

Basically when it came to adding the sugar and the boiling water, I mixed it all in then added all of the cold water. Then I added the yeast, and remembered I hadn't even put the worty gloop in yet. So when this worty gloop was added, the water was cold. I tried best to mix around, but obviously as the water was not cold is wasn't dissolving as it would have.

Basically, I just want to know if I should ditch and get a new kit and start all over, or can this still work? Will the gloop eventually dissolve to help in fermenting or will it just sit in the bottom and be ineffective?

All of the ingredients are there in the tub (yeast, sugar, gloop) now, so hopefully it may still do it's job and the fermenting should hopefully work? But, I thought I'd ask the home brew experts before waiting a week and needing to start again?

I mean thats impressive to miss the main component out when making beer 😆, my guess is that you wont end up with anything resembling beer. you need to have the syrup fully disolved and if there are big blobs stuck in solution its not going to work out. you can let it do its thing sample it at end of fermentation and if you think its drinkable add sugar and bottle it but I would be surprised. I hope it works out, but learn a lesson and make sure next time to follow the process.
 
Don't bin it. Left alone, the malt extract will slowly dissolve and dissipate into the water and be available to the yeast. Raising the temperature slightly or swirling the FV will speed it up. Let it ferment for 2 weeks, before testing and sampling, then decide whether to bottle, ditch or leave for a few more days.

I think as it's my first time, i'll get another kit and just start again. Best do it properly first time and learn from it. If I get a new kit and it turns out well, then I'll be motivated to practice brewing more in the future.

I've made up a couple of kits in the past where the malt became really lumpy and wouldn't dissolve ....But both turned out fine.
 
I agree with @MmmBeer.
If your beers not at about 20C, ladle some out and bring it to the boil and mix it back in. Repeat until you've got 20C. This will help the gloop dissolve. Leave it a while and stir again, really mashing away at the syrup at the bottom of the fementer . It won't all dissolve, but the liquid will start to take on the colour of the beer. Stir it again in the morning and again until it has all dissolved (You'll feel that there's no more gloop with your stirring paddle). It'll be fine, stirring over a couple of days isn't going to cause oxidation problems, the yeast will handle it at this stage.
A pain in the 'arris, but saveable.
