Welcome to the dark side

What to brew next, the eternal home brewer's problem, do you go for another of those beers you've already done and love, or do you try something new?

If you try a new brew, do you go clone, or take risk and brew summat you've never done before, but that sounds good on paper?

I've only done three full AG so far and the choice of what to brew is almost as much fun as building the kit was, and that was almost as good as drinking my own beer :)

my wife not so keen on my doing anuther ag brew she seems 2 think me take takeing over her pristeen kitchen for aprox 6hrs and creating a worse smell than a dead skunk thats been in a greenhouse for 12 weeks during an indian summer her words not mine is not her idea of a fun day

Little and often is my recommendation, i.e. brew as often as you can at fairly shallow brew lengths say 20 ltrs. Once you have a couple of favourites then fine tune then with the experience gained. :-D

was thinking 23ltr brews an slip the wife the cash card fill the car with go juice and get he brew on

I'm fortunate in that my wife works Saturdays and loves the smell of ovaltine which is the key aroma left after my usual brews :)

Let her go shopping with friends, while she's out get the windows open and brew :)

If that fails, then build a nice solid table in the garden and brew outside in the fresh air, it would take a little longer in winter, but as long as it's not raining then it's still brewing fun :)

lol only problem is im right smack bang in the middle of edinburgh and glasgow so not sure what that yellow thing in the sky all you south of the borders see in the sky an if its not raining its pishing down or its snowing so a brew allfresco a big wet no no lol just need 2 wait till shes out im lucky only wrk 4 day eeks an every 4th week im off for 5 so surely can get an empty 1 day lol

My better half loves the smell when I brew...so I'm on a winner. If you don't want to brew outside..do you have a garage?? have you room for a shed?

Alfresco is fine... you just need to adjust your volumes in beersmith... I think you just tick the "pishin' doon in Scotland" box in the preferences tab...

What to brew next?

Do what I did. Do another couple of recipes from here or from a book like Wheeler's just so you get the basics of which hop does what to a brew and which malt you prefer (I love pale American ales).

Then create one from scratch. I do now and I have never made a bad beer.

Different yes, unique definately but you really cannot make a bad AG beer unless you ignore the rules completely and go for a 250 IBU behemoth.

Actually I might give that a go.

Enjoy your new incredibly interesting, varied and above all cheap hobby.

The world's your oyster, open a shell or two!

I have been polishing off my stout- Alemans recipe-last night, and everyone that has tasted it has loved it, so if you fancy a stout, it's an excellent choice.
cheers
