Just done my first brew ever yesterday,

Just one of them cheap coopers kits, and I've added 1kg dextrose, that is it...

Although, I am preparing for my second brew right now, hoping to get creative and try things :P

Well done and I'm sure you'll be bitten by the bug the same as the rest of us, my first brew was a Coopers Canadian Blonde bottled October last year. If you can leave it long enough it's a cracking pint

Congratulations on you first brew :thumb:
Now for the hard part - waiting...

I did a Coopers Lager for Mrs Pjam, it was the clearest beer I've ever done from without using a secondary FV!
Not bad taste too.
They often get good reviews I think.

Newbie alert!

I'm doing my first brew at the weekend, I have the Coopers starter kit, going for a 'real ale'

I've seen lots on here about adding various things to the mix... Any suggestions or shall I just go with what's in the box?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

I'd say go with it as it is, get used to using the equipment and see how the first brew turns out then you have a base line to measure against next time, learn to walk before you start running is my advice :thumb:

Thank you both. That's what I was hoping you'd say! I'll let you know how I get on... Wish me luck.

Further to this, I've just finished making my first stage. Used the Coopers 'real ale' kit and didn't go anything other than follow instructions. It was 25 degrees when I added the yeast and the OG was 1042. I'm gonna shut it away for a few days and keep my fingers crossed!

Well done, patience is the key although it's really hard especially at first.

Next time I'd aim for nearer 20*C before pitching the yeast, too high a temp & you'll kill it :electric:

Ok thanks for the heads up, I hope the yeast doesn't die!

How would I know if its snuffed it?

It should be ok but 25 is a little high.

Within 24/48 hrs you should see a 'foam' on the top of the wort, that's the fermentation process started. Don't rely on the airlock bubbling as the FV's are not really airtight although my Ritchie's FV's bubble but my Young's FV's don't.
If there's nothing after 48 hrs then pop another packet of yeast in and that should sort it, good luck :thumb:

Thanks Trucker, I'll check for the foam and in the mean time keep everything crossed

No problem mate, just don't take the lid off too often otherwise you'll risk infection and the you'll just end up with 'drain cleaner'

I have foam!
Hurrah for foam! :thumb:

Were you planning to bottle or keg your beer? If bottling, you'll need to start collecting bottles, unless your kit came with some.

I got a bargin from Morrisons over the past few weeks, Whitsable Bay was a quid a bottle so between my self and my dad inlaw we have managed to collect 40 plus bottles and still going, was and still is a lovely drop btw :D

So if you can find bargins like that then your on a winner matey, i made my first brew last week, and is i am in the process of second one right this minute, so good luck with it.
