don't think i did too badly for my first go with OG 1056.

Its in the FV now foaming away nicley!

ps while i am writing, i have just finished a coopers belgan beer kit, It is not cloudy at all and (i havent had time to keg it up) now there is a "transparant scum" on the top that i can see glistening when it wobbles about??? contamination right at this late stage?

Well done on your 1st AG!
Re your Belgium beer, it's possible you've got a bit of wild yeast in there.
Is web like with large bubbles?
I've had this a couple of times, doesn't seem to affect the beer.

I see a film, almost like an oil film on top of a brew before when it has conditioned.
I've assumed that it might be some of the oils from the hops but would like to know too.

So far I have no evidence that says it a brew going bad :)

I have had a slight film on my oatmeal stout I bottled today. It has had it for about a week but tastes fine so hope it conditions ok.

well done on your first AG brew  another of us 'gone over' there seems to be a few recently :!:

well it tastes like warm flat beer.... so i think i am safe to bottle away!

i am not sure i will last 2 or 3 months of conditioning though!... i am nearly out of my other beer!

well i suppose i better have a taste of it then!!
It's the only way!
When you have "matured" a beer for 4, 8, 12 weeks or longer, the volatiles all come to the top and there they they stay!
It's only when you get to the bottom of the barrel that your beer goes cloudy again and the taste gets less than perfect.

Thanks for your posts graysalchemy, ericstd and evanvine.
One of the Major points of the Forum is to share past experiences and, if any, "get out of jail cards".
