Morning all,

Just thought say a "hello" - this is my first batch of Homebrew so I joined the forum to get some tips/advice/support.

As an opener - I've got a load of "Iron Press" bottles to bottle my brew but I can't get the flipping labels off. They're a vinyl type label and they won't soak.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum

Try filling those bottles with hot water, but keeping the outsides dry. That should soften the glue, and sometimes the labels will peel off cleanly.

At other times the vinyl will come off but the glue stays on the bottles. You can try white spirit and a scraper, but personally I would throw them straight back in the recycling and find something better.

I myself am a scavenger. I always bring a couple bags to poker nights or scavenge through the recycle to get my bottles. I have a process of de-labeling them. I have a big plastic tub out back that I have filled up with bleach water. I soak them there for a few days to kill any germs and loosen up the label. After about a three day soak I bring them into the house and I have a razor blade that I use to scrape off the tough labels(some just peel off). After I scrape the label I run it under hot water and use a metal scratch pad to remove any leftover adhesive. I know it’s a long process and time consuming but I refuse to buy “empty bottle” I rather send my money else ware on kit. Good luck on the labels.
