hi all. Have just got this brew in the f.v and it's sitting in the spare bedroom where it will be fermenting.
The instructions leaflet are a bit sparse as it does not say how much sugar to add when bottling or kegging.
On the tin it says add 6g of sugar per 750ml bottle or 3g to each 375ml bottle. Trouble is I'm kegging mine and it does not state how much sugar to add to the keg. Has anyone kegged this and could tell me how much sugar to add to the keg.
btw it's Bishops English bitter.
Cheers.

Depends how gassy you want your brew. I'd say 70g was plenty. Others may disagree though, and they probably know mroe about it than me.

If bottling, 6g per 750ml bottle would give you a pretty gassy brew, thats 8g a litre. I normally do lagers at about 10g per litre, so I would say 8g per litre would give you an overly fizzy english bitter if bottled, though of course it's down to personal preference.

You will not acheive the same levels of carbonation in a plastic barrel as they only hold so much pressure before the gas leaks from wither the safety release valve or, (in most cases it seems) the tap. So it's pointless to simply multiply the suggested sugar for that (overly gassy) bottling arrangement. Otherwise, you would be doing 8g x 23 = 184g.

Hope this is of some use.

Thanks for that yes it does help.

I don't want a particully gasses beer with it being English bitter.

When i saw 6g per 750ml bottle i thought is it me or does that sound a bit too much :wha: but what do i know.

Re the the barrel i usualy get around half way down before the pressure goes down then i top it up with an injection of gas so that's no problem.
