Pay attention, I am assured this is no joke, I have just been shown a letter by a workmate which he has received from his local Neighbourhood Watch scheme:

18 Oclober 2011

Very important

I have today received the following information from West Midlands Police:

“This is Paul Bailey, the Community Partnership Officer for Sandwell Local Policing Unit, West Midlands Police.

I have been requested by Trading Standards to inform you of the following scam as we approach the Christmas season and the number of packages and parcels increase significantly. This scam has been confirmed by the Royal mail service.

Please be aware of the following practice.

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mall Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

Please pass this information to your members, families and friends and advise them to be careful should they receive such a card through their door.

This company could easily change its name, be very careful and suspicious of any company asking you to use a premium rate number.”

The instant bill has gone up a lot to £315 now though  ( which was never true, it was a genuine £1.50 a min premium rate scam though in 2005)

Plenty of info here

I'm getting quite a number of these false delivery things but they are via e-mail for me and always claim to be parcel force.

I can assure you that ofcom would never allow such a premium line to exist within the UK.

Under UK communications act 2003 premium lines must inform you on the card of the charges nevertheless the maxium charge for the UK is £1.50 with a connection fee of £1.50.

To be charged £315 you would have to be on hold for 3.5 hours.

I know about the email's but not the postcard through the door one so cheers for that Moley. My wife just got scammed out of £360 to buy a Toy Yorkshire Terrier now we have no leg to stand on. On top of that £36 in 6 phone calls she made that happened to be international.

We can't have any more children and this dog would have been her new baby, now i am left to pick up the pieces. So watch out for any scams
